KARACHI: The 18 fishermen who were released from India received a warm welcome by the Provincial Livestock and Fisheries Minister Muhammad Ali Malkani after they reached Karachi Cantonment Station on Friday.
Malkani told the media present at the occasion, “The Sindh government will make efforts for the release of other fishermen imprisoned in Indian jails.”
He added, “Pakistani fishermen imprisoned in India will soon be reunited with their families.” He further said that the government is making efforts for the welfare of the fishermen community.
The minister stated, “A summary sent to the Government of Sindh, demanding for a Rs 10,000 stipend for fishermen imprisoned in India is in the last stages of approval.”
Provincial Secretary Ghulam Hussain, Fisheries Director General Ghulam Muhammad, Divisional Superintendent of Railways Tahir Nazir, DSP Railway Robin Yamin, and Pakistan Fishermen Association members Muhammad Baksh and Faisal Hassan were present on the occasion.
